How it’s calculated
The calculator walks through the range one day at a time:
- Business Days
- equals Calendar Days − Weekend Days − Weekday Holidays
- Weekends are Saturday and Sunday.
- The end date is always counted. The start date is counted only if you tick “Count the start date”.
- Adding days starts counting on the day after the start date, skipping weekends and (optionally) holidays.
- Holidays are the 11 US federal holidays on their observed dates: a holiday on Saturday is observed the Friday before; one on Sunday, the Monday after.
Worked example
Two scheduling questions:
- Working days in November 2026 (Nov 2–30): 19 business days. Veterans Day and Thanksgiving fall on weekdays and are excluded.
- A supplier promises delivery in 5 business days from Tuesday, June 30, 2026. With Independence Day observed on Friday, July 3, delivery is due Wed, Jul 8, 2026.

Assumptions and limitations
- Only US federal holidays are available. State holidays, religious holidays and company closures are not included.
- Federal holidays are calculated by rule, so they’re accurate for any year (Juneteenth from 2021). One-off closures declared by executive order are not included.
- Legal, court and contractual deadlines often have their own counting rules (for example, what happens when a deadline falls on a weekend). Always check the rule that governs your deadline.
- All dates are calendar dates with no time zone; the result is the same wherever you are.
